TINTON FALLS, NJ — A Toms River man's pickup truck drove off the Garden State Parkway and collided with a car on Saturday evening, killing two people, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.
Authorities did not identify any of the people involved in the crash that happened about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The 33-year-old Toms River man was driving a GMC Canyon northbound on the Parkway when it drove off the road at about milemarker 103, authorities said. The truck then drove over grass until it reached Asbury Avenue, where it collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by a 40-year-old Baltimore, Maryland man.
The driver of the Toyota and his passenger, a 35-year-old woman whose address was not known, died at the scene of multiple injuries, the prosecutor's office said.
The Toms River man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he consented to have blood drawn for toxicology testing and turned over his cell phone to investigators, authorities said.
The identities of the two people who died have been withheld pending confirmation that next of kin have been notified.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Serious Crash Analysis Response Team (SCART). Anyone with information is urged to contact Prosecutor's Office Detective Kristian DeVito at 1-800-533-7443.
