CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — A resident at a Prince George's County senior living facility has been charged with first-degree murder after police say he shot and killed two facility employees Friday.
Roy Batson, 63, of Capitol Heights, currently is jailed without bond, according to police. The incident unfolded Friday shortly after 9 a.m. at Gateway Village, located in the 500 block of Suffolk Avenue. Police believe Batson confronted 46-year-old Mackeda Evans of Temple Hills about a dispute involving a violation notice. Police say Batson returned to his apartment, grabbed a gun, then found Evans and shot her along with 46-year-old Michelle Boateng who also lived and worked at the facility.
The shooting prompted police to set up a perimeter around the facility and temporarily lock down a nearby elementary school.
