ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — An Anne Arundel County Police Department dispatcher was arrested after her fraudulent leave cost the county $4,300, authorities said Monday. Officers identified the suspect as 27-year-old Brandy Quarles, who was hired in May 2018. Officials accused Quarles of giving multiple fake doctor's notes saying she would need extended sick leave starting this June. Investigators alleged that Quarles was instead working for another agency in its dispatch training program, meaning she was fraudulently paid by Anne Arundel police. AACoPD announced that Quarles "was separated from the agency upon the initiation of this investigation," which started on July 20. Detectives said they secured a criminal summons charging Quarles with theft scheme, and another jurisdiction served it to her. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter.
