JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City's very own Terrence McCollum of Snyder High School was nominated for USA Football's Heart of a Giant Award. The award is presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery and the NY Giants. McCollum is part of the sixth set of outstanding Tri-State area high school football player nominees open for voting. McCollum was nominated by his coaches for his commitment, teamwork, will, character and dedication. McCollum's coach said this about him, "A high character young man who embodies what is to be a team player. Is always the first player on the field and the last one off. Never comes off of the field during games. Has literally played 5 different positions, sometimes at a moments notice and never complains. His name may not always be in the headlines, but there are no headlines without him."The voting period for these nominees is now open until Oct. 31, at 11:59 p.m. with the final vote tally determining who will be named the group's finalist. Overall, there will be six weekly finalists and five wild card finalists, leading to 11 total honorees. Each finalist will receive $1,000 for their high school's football program, with the grand prize winner's school getting an additional $4,000. The grand prize winner will be selected based on video submissions stating why they have the Heart of a Giant.
