Chatham H.S. Students Recognized Nationally For Top Test Scores

CHATHAM, NJ — The top 50,000 students in the country were recently chosen as "Commended Students" for the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program, with 29 Chatham High School students among them. Students were picked based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores from 2017, having applied for the competition in 2019. Among the Chatham High School students who made it to the Commended students level were: Stephen Andrews, Brian Babovic, Jonah Blanchard, Willy Chan, Stephanie Chen, Sofia Coutras, Meryn Dziemian, Annabella Falknenberg, Xinyue Fan, John Foley, Ausonie Guillot, Eloise Hilgendorff, Samuel Kaplan, Amudha Krishnan, Luke Lagunowich, Madeline Liu, Isabella Loconte, Aidan Marrinan, Mia Nydam, Jyotil Rai, Mihir Rao, Kate Ryan, Meghan Sabin, Hannah Sherman, Charlotte Siow, Alicia Soman, Risha Surana, Jack Tapper and Chloe Tsetsekas. "It is quite an accomplishment to be recognized as a National Merit Commended student," said the high school's principal, Darren Groh. "However, earning this status in such challenging times is even more impressive." According to information from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation which runs the program, the 50,000 students were selected among over 1.6 million students throughout the United States. A representative from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation described the students as a "valuable national resource." "We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success," was part of a statement released by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
