RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — A stabbing suspect who engaged in an hourslong standoff with the Orange County Sheriff's Department Sunday has been identified as Alberto Robiatti, a resident of Orange County.
Robiatti was arrested Sunday evening for outstanding warrants as well as assault with a deadly weapon, OCSD reported. It is not yet clear what charges Robiatti will face if found guilty.
OCSD Public Information Officer Sgt. Todd Hylton said Robiatti's last known address was a residence in Irvine, though he has heard that Robiatti was living in Rancho Santa Margarita at the time of the incident.
The incident began with a 911 call around 1:45 p.m. in the area of Alma Aldea, between Calle de Vida and Bienvenidos, according to OCSD. A person was stabbed and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures, CBS2 reported. Robiatti then went into a nearby apartment occupied by a man, a woman and child, the station reported.
Deputies continued to try to make contact with Robiatti and eventually broke a window in the apartment before throwing a cell phone inside, the station reported.
OCSD tweeted around 8 p.m. that the situation was peacefully resolved and authorities were leaving the scene.
