NAPERVILLE, IL —A Naperville Fire Investigation Team said it was continuing to search for the cause of a Monday morning fire that rendered two apartments in a Naperville building uninhabitable. No residents were hurt in the blaze, though a firefighter suffered minor injuries, according to the Naperville Fire Department. Fire officials said they received a call at about 9:46 a.m. about a fire coming from a garage of a 16-unit multifamily building located in the 2900 block of Kilburne Lane. According to reports by the Naperville Fire Department, a shift commander was on the scene within four minutes and observed heavy fire coming from the garage. Officials said that Naperville's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) initially dispatched a general alarm for the blaze, which brought to the scene a total of three engines, one heavy rescue squad, two ambulances, one incident commander and one safety officer. Eventually, the fire was upgraded to a box alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene, including units from Lisle-Woodridge, Aurora, and Bolingbrook Fire Departments. According to officials, Naperville Truck 10 was one of the first rescue vehicles to arrive at the scene, and its personnel communicated that all occupants had been evacuated from the building. Deploying a primary hose to the garage and a secondary hose to the interior structure, crews managed to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arrival, officials said. Additional crews assisted with establishing a water supply, removing smoke by ventilating and searching for any hidden fire throughout the complex. After the flames were extinguished, fire officials said salvage and overhaul activities were conducted to limited further damage to property and contents of the units involved. However, Naperville fire officials said two of the building's 16 units were declared uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage, while the remaining 14 units were able to be occupied.
