JOLIET, IL — Joliet police announced that two people were arrested last week in connection with allegations they committed state benefits fraud by taking COVID-19 Pandemic and Paycheck Protection funds they were not eligible for.
Last Thursday, Joliet police arrested 34-year-old Joliet resident Jelili Olaniyan and 41-year-old Asia Olaniyan. They were charged with state benefits fraud.
Joliet's detectives raided the Olaniyans' house in the 1000 block of Edgerton Drive around 6:40 p.m. Oct. 7 after a Joliet police investigation "indicated that the residents, Jelili and Asia Olaniyan, were fraudulently receiving COVID 19 Pandemic and Paycheck Protection funds," authorities said.
Both were taken into custody at the residence, and detectives recovered a large amount of United States currency, two vehicles and designer clothing from the residence, police reports claim.
"No further information will be released as this investigation is ongoing," police spokesman Dwayne English announced.
