ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — The Alameda County Fire Department warned residents to watch for downed power lines and trees after it quickly extinguished a fire off of the Altamont Pass midday Monday. The fire was reported near Livermore at Altamont Pass and Dyer roads around 11 a.m. and extinguished within an hour, according to smartphone app PulsePoint. The blaze was reported about an hour after the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. preemptively shut off power to about 110 customers south of Livermore in an attempt to avoid an equipment-sparked wildfire. The outage spanned southeast Alameda County from the area of Lake del Valle to the San Joaquin County line including part of Tesla Road. A "small spark could grow into a major fire [exacerbated] by the winds ... Be safe, fire season is most dangerous this time of year," Alameda County fire wrote. Much of the Bay Area, including the East Bay valleys and hills, was under a wind advisory and red flag warning Monday. Red flag warnings are issued when weather conditions are ripe for the quick spread of wildfire. "Your [Alameda County Fire Department] stations are fully staffed and prepared to respond," firefighters wrote. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
