ELMHURST, IL — In the past week, Elmhurst police responded to numerous accidents, thefts, DUI's, one car chase, and a few crisis and suicide calls. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police report. It does not include every incident listed. Aggravated Battery to Police Officer On Oct. 7, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Bonnie Brae Avenue for calls that an offender was breaking property and threatening family members. The reporting officer was battered while arresting the offender. The offender was charged with Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer and transported to DuPage County Jail. Ambulance Assist After a crash, officers and medics came across an unconscious victim stopped in traffic. The victim's car had rolled into the witness's car. Medics transported the victim to the hospital. Car accident On Oct 7, a car hit a school bus at North/Berteau. The offender was cited for No Valid Driver's License, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. On Oct. 7, one offender was cited for speeding following a crash at North Avenue and I-294. On Oct. 7, a car hit a truck at North and Highland. An offender was cited for Improper Lane Usage. On Oct. 7, a crash occurred at Route 83 and North Avenue. An offender was cited for improper lane usage. On Oct. 7, one offender was cited for speeding during a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of St. Charles and Cottage Hill. On Oct. 7, a crash occurred at York and Lexington. The offender was found not to have a valid driver's license. He was arrested, and charged with No Valid Driver's License, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Improper Lane Usage, and then released on bond. On Oct. 8, an accident occurred at the intersection of Butterfield and Commonwealth. The offender was cited for Failure to Yield at Intersection. On Oct. 8, a car accident occurred at 195 E. Butterfield Road. One offender was cited for Failure to Yield Turning Left, and another was cited for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. On Oct. 8, a car accident occurred at 155 S. Route 83. The offender was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. A car hit a fence on the 400 block of Butterfield Road on Sunday at 11:40 a.m. The offender was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Criminal Damage to Property The owner of Dulles Cleaners reported that an unknown suspect damaged three large signs displayed on the exterior window of his business. Crisis Intervention An employee at Extended Stay said she heard a woman screaming in one of the rooms. Officers arrived, but the woman would not answer the door. Officers determined she was not a danger to herself or others. Curfew On Oct. 6 at Spring and Van Buren, officers found an offender lying on the ground near a stop sign. She told officers she was waiting for her friend because there was no school tomorrow. The offender was cited for Curfew and released to her parents. DUI On Oct. 9 at 8:32 p.m., Jefferson A. Martinez Gomez, 18, was arrested for a DUI after crashing his car. He was charged with DUI, Possession of Cannabis by a Driver, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Transportation of Open Alcohol, and released on bond to his parent. On Oct. 10 at 6:42, a.m., an officer observed a vehicle at the intersection of Lake and York with the driver and passenger sleeping in the front seat. The driver was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm. The offender, Darius Smith, 32, was taken into custody and charged with DUI, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of Cannabis by a Driver, Improper Parking in the Roadway, and taken to DuPage County Jail. The passenger was cited for possession of cannabis and released. Fleeing/Eluding On Oct. 9, a speeding vehicle was observed weaving through traffic. When an officer tried to pull it over, the driver fled very fast on eastbound North Avenue. The offender turned himself into police, and was cited for Fleeing or Attempt to Elude a Police Officer, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Improper Lane Usage, and released. Harassment by Telephone A victim on the 200 block of 1st Street said he received several threatening calls from an unknown suspect due to an employee termination. An investigation is pending. Prowling Offenders were found on the roof of Mary Queen of Heaven Preschool at 10:13 p.m. on Oct. 10. One offender was cited for prowling and released. Another juvenile offender will be referred to Peer Jury, and released to his parents. Suicide threat On Oct. 9, officers responded to a report of a missing suicidal subject. According to a complaint, the victim went to a doctor's appointment and threatened the staff and made a suicidal statement. Medics transported the victim to the hospital. A victim was checked into Elmhurst Hospital on Oct. 10 after she admitted to suicidal thoughts and taking pills. Theft On Oct. 4, a victim on the 400 block of Addison Avenue reported that an unknown suspect removed the clear plate cover, four screws, and the rear license plate from his vehicle. On Oct. 8, a victim reported that two trailers that were supposed to be shipped to their address were missing. One trailer was traced to Florida, and the other is still missing. An investigation is pending. On Oct. 8, a victim reported that an unknown suspect stole her wallet from her unattended backpack. She received an alert for two attempts of fraudulent purchases made with her credit card. A victim reported that parts of his bicycle were stolen off the frame of a bicycle that was locked to the rack. Surveillance shows an unknown suspect walking away from the bike rack carrying a wheel and backpack. On Oct. 10, a woman reported that her black electric scooter was stolen from the alley where it was parked. No offender has been reported. Warrant Service An offender was stopped at Vallette and Meister on Oct. 8 for disobeying a traffic control device, and found to have a warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. The offender was taken into custody and cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device.
