CHICAGO — It may have been a long wait, but for the participants in the 43rd edition of the Chicago Marathon, it was worth it. Not run since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunday's race was filled with local participants.
The marathon was won by Seifu Tura, of Ethiopia, and Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya, in 2 hours, 6 minutes, 12 seconds, and 2:22:31, respectively The wheelchair race was won by Daniel Romanchuk and Tatyana McFadden, both of the United States, in 1:29:07 and 1:48:57.
Runners from Arlington Heights that completed the marathon include:
Moritz Schimmele (30-34 age division), 3:14.44Takuya Aizawa (50-54), 3:18.26Masao Yanagida (50-54), 3:18.31Stanislau Urbanovich (50-54), 5:19.13Mariel Gardiner (30-34), 5:23.45 All results were unofficial as of Monday afternoon.

Participants in this year's race were required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of attending the event.
