DETROIT — Sen. Adam Hollier, a Democrat from Detroit, will hold a news conference Tuesday to push for a fair district map. Hollier will speak in front of the Spirt of Detroit on Woodward Avenue at 1 p.m. Tuesday. A coalition of lawmakers, clergy, union and community activists will join him. Hollier feels The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission has not drawn fair maps because there is not a majority black district, his office said in a news release. "They drew districts that are not indicative of black communities and Detroit," Hollier said. "They drew the City of Detroit into districts that Detroiters will not win, and Black people will not win because a majority of the voter base are in suburban communities, particularly in primaries whereDemocratic races are decided."
