Press release from the University of Alaska Anchorage:
October 11, 2021
Dear UAA Community,
Today we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day, an opportunity for our university community to recognize the diverse and vibrant culture of Alaska Native groups and their invaluable contribution to our state.
Indigenous Peoples Day is a day to celebrate and honor Alaska Native Peoples' culture, history, knowledge and resilience. We invite you to join UAA Alaska Native faculty presenting at an Indigenous Peoples Day online event hosted by Alaska Pacific University (APU), on Monday, Oct. 11, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The event will also be livestreamed on Facebook and will be available for viewing on the APU ANCSA at 50 event page.
In November, we will celebrate National Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month. We will provide more opportunities to educate ourselves and our community about the ancestral lands of the Dena'ina, Ahtna Dene, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq, Chugachmiut and Eyak peoples where we live, work and learn. I encourage you to continue learning about our state's rich Alaska Native heritage that has shaped our past and will continue to enrich our future.
Sincerely,Sean Parnell,UAA Chancellor
