Wanted: Experienced Farmer for Sharecrop Opportunity As a sharecropper, you would live in the large Farm house and be responsible for growing and selling all crops. Like a Farmer, the more you grow and sell, the more you can make. Water will be provided free from an on-site well, solar pumped to a drip irrigation piping and t-tape or discrete emitter system. Duties: This Lead Farmer position person, with the ageing owner will plan spring and fall plantings; estimate harvest crop timing; coordinate sprouting, planting, watering, weeding, compost, trimming, pest control and harvesting; chicken care; worm care; sell fresh food at local Farmers Markets; summarize and report on weekly and seasonal sales and expenses. Seasonal expenses like seeds, purchased mulch and compost, and extra labor would be paid by the owners Farm Fund, then reimbursed from sales. Non-farm related maintenance tasks will be pensd on an hourly basis. The Farm now has 15 each 3x100ft T-tape rows plus 20 mounds and eight smaller gardens, and is all watered by a solar powered well pumping into a piped drip irrigation system. There are approximately 30% perennial food crops consisting of fruit and nut trees, grape vines, artichokes, berries, herbs and rhubarb. Existing infrastructure includes a PV powered drip irrigation system, 50' hoop house, tools, outdoor wash station, refrigerator, farm truck and market tent and tables. Experience a plus with organic (non-certified), vertical farming, nutrient chemistry herb and myco grow composting methods. Wanting a nice person with a minimum of drama, a healthy eater, a decent communicator, dependable, reliable, responsible, honest, considerate, capable of empathy, has a good attitude, valid humor and an individual who wants to live and work on a Farm. Experience with small farm operations is required, but learning is an ongoing process. If you respect and protect our Mother Nature, then you may like living on this large yard solar powered drip irrigated veggie and berry farm, located very near the Rio Grande river. Lots of peace and quiet except for the large grey Sandhill cranes, geese and ducks who can be quite noisy as they fly overhead in their large V formations when they are migrating. A sharecropper is a tenant farmer who is provided with credit for seed, tools, food and living quarters, who works the land, and who receives an agreed share of the value of the crop minus expenses. A mentor-apprentice arrangement will be considered for the right person or couple. Living Quarters: The on-site house located in NW Albuquerque near the Nature Center, includes a 10 x 12 bedroom with a secure west window, a nice bed, closet, bathroom with shower stall, hall and kitchen, utilities, wi-fi, fresh veggies in season and occasional fresh eggs, Off-street parking, near bus stop and bike trails.
