Looking for small dog breed

Recently in the last few months I had to go on disability and have been looking for a dog for companionship and as an emotional support dog. I'd prefer to get a younger pupperz to grow up with me and I can train from the start, this is not set in stone. I live in an apartment next to a pretty good sized park. I have all the time to devote to what a dog needs. The last dog I got from a rescue shelter in CA and the woman assured me the 3yr old German Shepherd she had would be great for my situation.... He was a loving happy dog(have pictures and videos) but he needed more than an apartment and sadly we weren't a fit for each other and we sent him back, which was part of the deal. It's been a few weeks and I'm ready to start the search again. Have everything ready food, toys, dog bed, crate, pads, leashes, treats but need the dog lol. I even have the vet picked out already.
