We want YOU in the place to discuss how to work to support black girls in schools and empower them to TAKE BACK power through disruptive policing. A pre-event reception is at 4:30 pm. Come have small light fare, take pictures, and win a prize or two from one of our sponsors. ______________________________________________________________________ Clothed Minds is a documentary focusing on the effects that school dress code policies have on Black girls in the Washington DC public and charter schools. Based on the report Dress Coded: Black Girls, Bodies and Bias in DC Schools from the National Women’s Law Center, Clothed Minds seeks to explore the impact of disproportionally enforcing dress codes on Black girls over other races and genders. The harsh punishments were proven to lead to detrimental effects on the girls’ school performance, self-esteem and even the ability to find and maintain work as adults. Clothed Minds seeks to convey this information through extensive interviews with psychologists, local community activists, the founders of the initial study as well as first-hand accounts from Black girls currently attending DC public schools and those that contributed to the report.
