Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Monday October 11th, 2021! First, today's weather: Breezy with plenty of sun. High: 68 Low: 47. Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: It's a sad state of affairs when a comic store gets victimized, but that's what happened to Empire's Comics on Fulton Blvd. last week. The thieves broke in early in the morning before the store opened and stole about $400 worth of merchandise. Unfortunately, they also did about $4,000 worth of damage. Loyal patrons have started a fundraiser to help Empire's Comics with the cost of damage repairs. Police are still searching for the bandits. (KCRA3) If you've driven down Highway 50 lately, this will not be a surprise to you, but accidents are on the rise due to all of the construction on the freeway. Honestly, sometimes it's hard just to figure out where the lanes are supposed to be on this stretch of the road. From March to August, the California Highway Patrol responded to around 360 crashes from Watt Avenue to the Sacramento River on westbound Highway 50. That's around a 70% jump from the same time period during 2019. Beware, though, Caltrans and CHP are working together to plan a "swarm," where an enhanced number of CHP officers will be working to increase enforcement to force drivers to pay attention. (CBS Sacramento)The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is working to connect people with jobs by holding a job fair. It held the "You Betta Work" career fair on Friday, featuring more than 20 companies and small businesses. Robynne Rose-Haymer of the Sacramento LGBT Community Center said this job fair came together to make sure those in the LGBTQ community have both affirming and inclusive job opportunities within the region. (ABC10)Pet Owners of Citrus Heights, a local nonprofit commonly known by its acronym "POOCH," will be hosting a "Bark-B-Q" fundraiser later this month at C-Bar-C Park. Tickets are $20 per person and includes pulled pork or brisket, along with sides of potato salad, coleslaw, green salad and rolls. Past fundraisers have raised money for such things as an ADA compliant walking path the organization is seeking to build inside C-Bar-C's dog parks. (Citrus Heights Sentinel) If you've been to Folsom lately, you've likely seen the yellow ribbons tied around posts and poles throughout the city. They were put there to welcome home soldier Tyler Justin Vargas Andrews who was wounded in Kabul on August 26th. Unfortunately, it's going to be a bit longer before Sergeant Andrews gets to see those ribbons. He just underwent his 23rd surgery to repair his injuries. "Tyler is the most severely wounded to have survived," stated a public post by Warfighter Overwatch, a veterans' organization supporting Andrews and his family. "With two amputations, we are lucky Tyler is still with us. He is a miracle." I'm sure Folsom will be waiting with open arms whenever Sergeant Andrews is allowed to return home.
