Here are the top stories in Long Beach today: The foul stench that has wafted over some LB neighborhoods has been traced. It comes from the Dominguez Channel running through Carson and near LB's western city limits. Initially, the South Coast Air Quality Management District blamed "natural decay of organic materials." However, Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes revealed it was a "Hydrogen Sulfide leaking pipeline." LB officials have been silent. (LBReport)After FedEx chose to no longer continue its services at the LB Airport, the slot didn't remain vacant for long. Southwest Airlines gobbled it up. Because the airport is noise-controlled, it only allows 53 daily flights. With the new slot, Southwest now has 35. (LB Post) ComplexCon is coming to LB, y'all! "This November we're returning with even more drops, brands, art, music, food, discussions," organizers say. Scheduled for November 6 and 7, it will be at the Convention Center. A$AP Rocky and Turnstile bring the tunes. J Balvin and Kristen Noel Crawley will be on the host committee. (ComplexCon) Mayor Robert Garcia, tweeting from his personal account, thanked the community for getting vaccinated. At this time, 80% of LB adults have received the vaccine. He urges his audience to "keep everyone safe." (@RobertGarcia) The LBPD is looking for a new police chief. With Chief Robert Luna's retirement scheduled for December, the right candidate "will take our Police Department to the next level." "Eligibility will include: all current and former LBPD personnel holding the rank of commander and above; and chiefs and assistant/deputy chiefs from other jurisdictions, with a strong preference for those who have experience working in California."
