Description
A series of seminars centered on personal growth and professional development for BIPOC educators within an inclusive and safe community. Throughout the Martinez Fellowship Seminar series, we will engage in a variety of structured activities, workshops, and dialogues that serve as a space for us to examine the impact of racism and colonizing behaviors and mindset on self, others, and systems. Each seminar will focus on a phase of Liberation Pedagogy; first to recognize, then subsequently challenge and unlearn traditional norms, replace those norms with more inclusive pedagogical practices, and finally collectively engage in a practice of reflective and liberated leadership. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seminar #1: Recognize - Identify what liberated teaching looks like and recognize harmful oppressive ideologies Saturday, October 9th, 2021 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (PST) Bethaday Community Learning Space | 605 SW 108th St, Seattle, WA 98146 Seminar #2: Undo - Engage in conversation on the process of undoing and healing from internalized racial trauma and white supremacist practices Saturday, December 11th, 2021 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (PST) Location TBD Seminar #3: Replace - Practice anti-racist mentoring and actively engage in community with a network of BIPOC educators and leaders Saturday, February 19th, 2022 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (PST) Pacific Science Center | 200 2nd Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109 Seminar #4: Engage (*Joint event with Education EnCounter!*) - Connect and share sustainable tools and practices to re continue to becoming a more liberated educator and leader Saturday, April 9th, 2022 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (PST) Location TBD Technology Access Foundation (TAF) is a nonprofit, on-the-ground leader in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
