Re: Immigration Compromise - Supplemental

Description

Actually, there is a work visa program in place that some agricultural companies use to bring in temporary labor. But mostly the cost and administrative requirements of the program out way the benefit of the worker, except maybe for the larges of corporate operations. A worker cannot just get a temporary visa and come to the US to work. The company has to SPONSOR the worker, and that sponsorship involves housing and GAURENTEED employment for the length of visa. So if the worker turns out to be completely incapable of the work for which he/she was retained, too bad for the employer. The employer would have to just let the worker sit home in the house the employer built/rented and pay the worker anyway for the length of the visa. Worker housing is a spiderweb of state and local requirements plus, as anyone living in the Bay Area can attest, VERY expensive. A travel trailer would not qualify. The old days of worker visas are gone, but not forgotten. Now maybe Biden can fix this too.
