Suffolk Police Faith In Blue Events To Run Through Monday

YAPHANK, NY — The National Faith and Blue Weekend is underway with the Suffolk county police department joining together with faith-based groups to foster inclusivity and better relationships in communities from Patchogue on the east end end of the county to Brentwood in the west end. The events will "create safer" and "more inclusive communities by connecting law enforcement officers and the residents they protect and serve," Suffolk police stated in a news release. The events started in Center Moriches and Copiague on Saturday, and continued on Sunday in Brentwood. They will end on Monday in communities like Patchogue, Medford, Huntington, and Kings Park. As part of the events each of Suffolk department's seven precincts will partner with religious institutions "to offer a variety of activities designed to enable law enforcement officers and members of the public to get to know each other, and to build a mutual understanding," police said. The events will be held at the following locations in Suffolk: The Harbor Church, located at 25 Frowein Rd. in Center Moriches, on Oct. 9 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Activities include a food and toiletry drive, as well as food and refreshments.Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, located at 1 Malloy St. in Copiague, on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. Activities will include a community cleanup, art contest, and clothing drive.St. Luke's Church, located at 266 Wicks Rd. in Brentwood, on Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Activities will include a food drive.Grace Gospel Church, located at 214 Falcon Ave. in Patchogue, on Oct. 11 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Activities include a food drive, games for children, food, and drinks.Axis Church Cafe, located at 2884 Route 112 in Medford, on Oct. 11 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include a highway rollover demo and highway Mustang on display, and a community block party.SCPD Second Precinct, located at 1071 Park Ave. in Huntington, on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Activities will include a round table discussion with faith leaders.Kings Park Plaza, located on Main Street in Kings Park, on Oct. 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include craft projects, as well as apple cider with cops and clergy. The Nassau County Police Department also joined in the weekend of events by holding a larger one at New Covenant Church in East Meadow on Saturday. County Executive Laura Curran joined with Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder in announcing Nassau police's event will "create meaningful relationships between law enforcement and the community by utilizing houses of worship as venues," according to a news release. The event included demonstrations by various units in the department, including the Emergency Services Unit, K-9 and Mounted units, as well as the Bureau of Special Operations, Arson/Bomb Squad, and the Electronics Squad. It was followed by giveaways distributed by members of Community Affairs and the National Champion Nassau County Police Department Explorers.
