Here are the top stories today in Merrick: News 12 Long Island has the story on how a family of five and a neighbor escaped a massive fire that damaged two homes in Massapequa. It happened at 3 a.m. on Baltimore Ave. early Saturday morning. (News 12) News 12 also looks at the SPCA's pleas for donations after rescuing over 70 cats from a North Bellmore home. Dozens need homes and many need medical attention. (News 12) Jerry Barmash writes about Nassau Coliseum's new COVID-19 health safety guidelines. (Patch) The Daily Voice reports that a former doctor from Amityville was sentenced for conspiring to illegally distribute Oxycodone. Tameshwar Ammar, age 53, was sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison. The 68-year-old Apparao Sunkara was originally arrested in March and now new charges have been added.
