Hear A Helicopter? It's A Boston Marathon Route Safety Check

FRAMINGHAM, MA — If you hear a helicopter hovering over the area on Saturday, it probably has something to do with the Boston Marathon. According to Framingham police, the U.S. Department of Energy will be using helicopters to check the route for signs of radiation before race day on Monday. Apart from new coronavirus safety measures in place, local and federal police are take precautions to make sure race day goes without incident. The 126th Boston Marathon starts at 8 a.m. Monday at the start line in Hopkinton center. The marathon cuts through the heart of MetroWest along Route 135, jogging through Ashland, Framingham and Natick before turning northeast at Route 16 in downtown Wellesley. The U.S. Department of Energy will be conducting a radiation assessment survey today and tomorrow.
