MANCHESTER, CT — After a 1-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, high school runners returned to Wickham Park in full force Saturday for the 37th Wickham Invitational, the largest invitational meet in Connecticut.
A total of 2,203 competitors crossed the finish line in 13 events, including six varsity races. Runners from 112 schools competed, including 99 from Connecticut and 13 from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
The best time of the day was posted by Michael Bohlke of Newington, who was the only runner to break 16 minutes over the hilly 3.1 mile course. He won the boys large school race in 15:54. Rachel St. Germain of Somers easily won the girls large school event, finishing in 18:16 to top the runner-up by 49 seconds.
