The meetings, which run (unless otherwise noted), from 6 – 9 p.m. allow for public input and review of improvement projects planned for more than 30 SAISD schools as part of the 2020 bond proposal approved by voters on Nov. 3, 2020.  Willie Burroughs, SAISD Chief Operations Officer, called the community design charrette meetings an opportunity to bring everyone together to build a shared vision for the future and the improvement of our schools. The meetings, hosted at SAISD high schools, will highlight plans for improvements at feeder campuses for each single member district. Breakout sessions will provide the latest plans for each individual campus.  "These community meetings are important, as they serve to build dialogue among all San Antonio ISD stakeholders in our community," said Christina Martinez, SAISD Board President and Trustee Member for District 6. "We are here to share ideas and a vision for the future of our schools, whether they involve new buildings, major additions or renovations planned in the coming months and years."  Parents, teachers, administrators, students, neighborhood businesses, and organizations have been meeting since May 2021 and formed a Project Advisory Team (PAT) for each campus. The charrette meetings share the latest feedback and ideas from PAT members, architects and SAISD project managers to reimagine schools at every level of learning – early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school.  "I believe our team and the schools are off to a great start. We've had parents, teachers, students, administrators all here providing their input," said Tim Kunz, VLK Architects principal. "Some people here have over 20 years of experience working on this campus at Kate Schenck Elementary School. They know the area; they know the site very well. They know the dynamics of how this school runs."   "As architects, we can design a building, but without this input, we're really starting with very little," Kunz added. "It's fantastic that SAISD has created education specifications to provide the programming pieces, but how those are laid out and function for this school specifically, getting started on the right foot makes it that much better." Kate Schenck principal Susan Del Toro's PAT team named themselves "Tree of Learning" to pay homage to the incredibly old trees on the Schenck property. "One of the most notable features of our campus are the trees," she said. "They're over 100 years old.
