We are looking for convicted felons that have not had a conviction in the last five years. Those that have a history of substance abuse and or mental health concerns that are in recovery for at least one year are welcomed and encouraged to contact me. My goal is to form a Committee to advocate for expansions of re-entry supports, mental and substance abuse services and access to employment. The committee members will also help mentor recently incarcerated individuals. Those selected will help me develop a program(s) to address community violence with the hopes of reducing the number of violent acts in the community, substance abuse and the removal of stigmatized views of those with felons. Petersburg currently has the highest murder rate and while the politicians focus on the current mass shootings, felons are branded in the state of Virginia. Felons in Virginia deserve a second chance and it is crucial that Politicians, Law enforcement and community members know that criminal records do not define a person. Only seriously committed individuals are asked to respond. Please forward your story for review and consideration. Whether or not you have gained sustainable employment, your input and concerns are needed and valued! Together we can create change in the tri-city are and ultimately the state of Virginia!
