THIS IS A FREELANCE / TEMP POSITION - NOT FULLTIME We are a busy custom fabrication shop based in Brooklyn, NY. We partner with industry leading Designers, Architects and Brands to create exciting, transformational consumer experiences. Our clients choose us because we push the limits of what is possible. We are looking for Freelance Metal Assistants in the New York Metro area, who would be available to work in our shop. The primary tasks include: cutting, prepping and sanding metal. There is room for growth for individuals with the right attitude, attention to detail, and skillset. The Metal Assistant is responsible for three key areas: 1. Fabrication 2. Department Operations 3. Systems and Safety The Metal Assistant is an eager entry-level Fabricator / Installer that assist our Metal Department. They are devoted to learning and improving his / her craft through assigned tasks and regular department operations. The Metal Assistant trains to receive, review, and build from technical drawings and follows task priorities according to the production schedule and Department goals. He / She collaborates with other Department members to safely and efficiently complete the scope of work assigned to them. A Metal Assistant is always solution-oriented and develops clear communication and troubleshooting skills throughout the production process. The Metal Assistant strives to be a role model of the Metal Department demonstrating his/her best craftsmanship and work ethic. Below is a more detailed description of this work: 1. Fabrication ● Reviews assigned tasks & reports back to the Lead Welder and/or Department Manager with questions, comments, concerns ● Shadows and assists Lead Welders and Build leads through the fabrication, tech up and install process ● Gathers and tracks all required tools, equipment, and hardware for the appointed projects ● Demonstrates safe and proper lifting and handling skills ● Assists in moving and building elements through production departments, tech ups, and install ● Strives to operate safely and efficiently on all Metal shop machines, equipment, and electric/pneumatic tools ● Advances his/her material knowledge with new products and their properties, applications and hazards ● Exhibits keen knowledge of metal products, sheet goods, joinery, hardware, and finishes ● Continues to improve his/her knowledge of our shop's entire production process (CNC, Fabrication, Finishing, & Installs) ● Replenishes department supplies and reports low inventory accordingly ● Demonstrates keen attention to detail and thoroughness ● Forecasts and communicates completion timelines of build elements for a given project(s) to Lead Welder and/or Department manager ● Ensures the product is up to our shop's standards before passing off to next step in the production 2. Department Operations ● Contributes to the project process through tech ups and installs ● Observes and demonstrates safe and efficient build practices and tool use. ● Maintains a clean and orderly workspace and bench ● Assists the daily operations of the Metal team’s assigned tasks and space ● Operates at a high level of professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and awareness ● Embodies our shop's core values in and out of the shop ● Responsible for tracking hours when starting/completing tasks for each project ● Collaborates in the upkeep of all department-specific tools, machines and consumables ● Leads by example in fostering a positive, solution-oriented teamwork environment ● Regularly reviews hits/misses of projects with welders and provides constructive feedback and direction regarding their assigned tasks 3. Systems and Safety ● Conducts clear, productive and professional communications through the Department ● Submits requests for project-specific material, tools and/or hardware through the Department Manager ● Collaborates with team members in replenishing Department consumables and tool maintenance ● Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environment in all machining, assembly and tech-up spaces ● Regularly inspects all tools, tool paths, assembly areas, tech-up spaces, access paths, and egress routes for clear and safe use ● Maintains a safe, healthy, and judgment-free working environment We are a COVID-health mandated facility.
