An evening dedicated to celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day through honoring Native American peoples, histories, and cultures. Join us at Fjällräven Denver on October 11th, 6:30pm - 8:30pm as we celebrate and honor Native American peoples on Indigenous Peoples' Day featuring a panel discussion, dancers, and light libations. Featured guests include: Jaylyn GoughJaylyn Gough, a Diné woman, is a photographer, writer, speaker, and the founder of Native Womens Wilderness. Designed to be an organization to share stories, to learn, and to support other Native Women on the Land. It was created in the frustration of the lack of Women of Color represented in the Outdoor Industries, let alone a Native Woman. Jaylyn hopes to assist in the change of the outdoor stigma of what women should look like and has a great desire to see more diversity in our Industries. Being a woman of color is difficult, but these stories represent the resiliency our Native Women have and how much of it is tied to the Land. She is an Ambassador for Vasque, Backcountry, and a guide for Fjallraven. Her work has been featured in Outside Magazine, National Geographic, The Washington Post, and Condé Nast. She is an avid hiker, backpacker, angler, climber, biker...with a Masters in Clinical Social Work. You can usually find her in the desert or in the mountains with a camera in hand. Cali WolfCali Wolf is an indigenous mother, author and activist. She is the coordinating director for Native Women’s Wilderness and works in the Denver area as a board certified emergency nurse. She is Sicangu Lakota and uses her platform to speak on reclaiming identity and spreading awareness for Native issues. Sarah OrtegonSarah Ortegon, was born in Denver, Colorado. She is enrolled Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho and is an Ambassador for Native Womens Wilderness. In 2013 she graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art with a concentration in drawing. In August 2013 she was crowned Miss Native American, USA. In 2020, Ortegon was featured as an artist in a PBS Emmy nominated film called, “The Art of Home.” Ortegon also received her hiking and instructing certificate from National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in 2019. She is currently an Executive Legal Assistant for Native American Rights Fund (NARF), located out of Boulder, CO. Donna ChisjohnDonna Chrisjohn is Sicangu Lakota and Dine. She is a Native of Denver, Colorado, and a mother of 5 children. Donna is a legal professional with over 25 years of experience in private, public and tribal law. She stays active in the Native community, both locally and nationally, by volunteering and participating in several organizations. Donna serves on the Denver American Indian Commission (former Co-Chair), Chinook Fund's Board of Directors (current Co-Chair), Native Women's Wilderness Board of Directors and the Advisory Board for Melanin Stories Matter. She is an Indigenous Education Consultant and has been presenting the Indigenous perspective to schools and organizations for over 43 years. Raelene WhiteshieldRaelene Whiteshield (Tsa-Geah-Hodle-Mah) is a Sr. Client Relationship Specialist at BOK Financial with over 20 years of experience in the financial industry. Raelene is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and is also of Kiowa Tribal decent. She is an Indigenous Consultant specializing in both Awareness & Education and Diversity & Inclusion. She has been involved in numerous projects, community engagements, and cultural awareness events. She also specializes in Indigenous textile assembly, traditional and contemporary Native American dance, and is an Indigenous representative in various committees throughout Colorado. She is inspired daily by her Children, her family, and her tribal roots, in her free time, she likes to hike, run and be the ultimate fan to her children.
