Southern Italian Christmas Eve traditional dinner of fish and seafood, pasta, vegetables, sauces and wines; and strufoli for dessert!
One of Chef Roseann's fondest childhood memories is the Christmas Eve tradition of Feast of the Seven Fishes. Multiple courses of assorted fishes, shellfish, mollusks, handmade pastas, grilled vegetables and light and hearty sauces, served family style, all night long! Chef's Mom always made shrimp scampi; Dad made stuffed peppers; Aunt Tessie made stuffed calamari, Nanni made bacala....you get the idea. So many people came for dinner that plywood was placed on Dad's pool table, and we all sat around that huge table until we all left for midnight mass.
At the annual Feast of the Seven Fishes at Red Gravy, you'll be served multiple courses , family style, just as we did at home. The menu changes every year but always includes shrimp, mussels, clams, calamari, flounder, bacala, anchovies and sardines, in addition to some others, in some form. All the pasta is handmade by Roe. We will have various wines and cocktails available at our cash bar for pairing with your courses, if desired. This meal is always ended with Roe's strufoli, only made once a year. We are very pleased to offer live music for this event, this year!
Red Gravy is now in it's 10th in the CBD! We've enjoyed serving our local friends and NOLA visitors brunch, receiving Tops of the Town for the past three years, #1 Brunch and Best Italian restaurant as well. Recipes are handed down from our families and some local inspiration, as well. Both Roe and Lou, owners and chefs at Red Gravy chose New Orleans as home in 2010.
