Another year completed. Time to honor those we've lost this year and before. This holiday is a blend of indigenous Mexican and catholic traditions. Originating in Mexico with varying traditions. This holiday is being celebrated increasingly throughout Latin America, the United States and worldwide. Everyone can relate to the desire to remember and connect with lost loved ones, ancestors and people who have touched their lives. Houston is the most culturally diverse city in the United States and has a huge Mexican population. Downtown Houston is well on it's way to becoming the true cultural heart of Houston. We think that downtown is the perfect place to come together for this holiday. If you agree, please let us know by marking interested, going or better yet registering. Now that you are considering celebrating with us, here is some information you may find helpful. PARKING: Please consider taking the MetroRail, Uber, Lyft, Taxi or using PARK & RIDE for the celebration. Closest parking garage to the majority of the activities is at the corner of Travis and Prairie. Please look for emergency no parking signs before parking. If you drive downtown, please use this website to locate a garage: www.downtownhoustonparking.org. Check downtownhouston.org/parking to help find parking spots. ATTIRE: This is Day of the Dead. Please dress accordingly. This is a chance to dress up in the spirit of the holiday. This is an inclusive holiday. But attendees are requested to be respectful towards the cultural significance of the holiday. Ladies the best part about Downtown is how close all the venues are to each other. Wearing heels downtown is much easier than other neighborhoods.   This page is intended as an informational page. Registration not required to attend any individual event. Each event at each venue may have it's own requirements.  By registering we will inform you of updates to any events downtown as we see them. Please see the holiday guide. WHENMost of the activities at most of the venues are happening between 4-10 pm on Saturday. There maybe be additional happenings on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. If we haven't mentioned it here, it's not part of THIS event. Please don't make definite plans until you've read everything and reviewed our Holiday Guide (when it comes out). This event is new-ish and will continue to grow. Please don't compare it to events in other cities which have been around for decades. We'll get there with your support.  Downtownfest is a group of stakeholders, bar and restaurant operators and community leaders in and around the Downtown area.
