Night Operation at AEP Services / Scenturion K9 in Fontana, Ca. The Scentsable K9 is excited to offer a unique training experience at AEP Services / Scenturian K9 in Fontana, Ca. on Saturday November 27, 2021 from 1700-2100 hours to conduct Night Operations /Live Coaching! This facility is used to train many law enforcement K9 teams and we will have full access! Pete will be teaming up again with fellow California Narcotic Canine Association (CNCA) Board Member and retired Brea PD K9 handler- Eric Oden. Night Ops is designed to expose K9 teams to new and different environments during low light/no light conditions. We are unable to control Mother Nature so based on the natural lighting conditions at the time of the training deployment will determine the amount of difficulty a K9 team may encounter. By working in darker environments, you are able to really see and, more importantly, hear your dog while they are searching for target odors because dogs olfactory senses will be relied upon more that their sight. What is live coaching? You get to pick how you run the search! Blind, known locations, known amount, or our favorite....."Lifeline", which is where we intervene only when needed. Got more than one dog? You can run a different dog for whichever search you want but you only get one shot at it. So run dog # 1 for exteriors and dog # 2 for vehicles, etc- what ever your training goals are! Teams should know and respond to the odors of Anise, Birch, and Clove. Searches will include the elements of vehicles, exterior, and interior searches will be conducted. Flashlights are required for this event, along with any other lighting devices (headlamps or other lights attached to you or your K9 partner). We will cover the pros and cons of each type of lighting device and how you can make it work best for you.
