Description

A Peek at the Past Recently, our local Cal Trans office donated to the Special Collections at the A.K. Smiley Public Library some rare film footage of downtown Redlands taken during the 1930's with the creation of a new underground channel for the Zanja with the widening of Central Avenue for the Highway 99. The black and white film allows us to step back in time to see what life in Redlands was like during the Depression years. City Archivist, Nathan Gonzales will present the film which can be seen in person at the Contemporary Club or via Zoom. Nathan is a former president of the Historical Society and a frequent speaker on historical topics throughout the city. He most recently is collaborating with Larry Burgess and Tom Atchley with their class on local history sponsored by the library.
