WALTHAM, MA — A Waltham resident has been appointment to the Board of Directors at Gaining Ground, a Concord nonprofit growing organization produce for hunger relief. Guillermo Ruiz-Rico, a Product Manager at S&P Global, moved to the U.S. from Spain eight years ago. As a member of Gaining Ground's board, he plans to use his experience to help the organization's finance or development committees. "Coming from a country with ample and affordable produce, it was shocking to me seeing how expensive fresh, healthy food is in Massachusetts," said Ruiz-Rico in a statement. "We are what we eat and being healthy should not be a luxury." "I'm deeply enthusiastic about Gaining Ground's mission to improve the health and well-being of those who need it the most through access to nutritious food," he continued. Ruiz-Rico joins three other new board members, Laurie Engdahl, Ashley Perssico, and Kristen Van Damm, and the organization's new board president, Polly Vanasse. The new board members will help provide strategic direction for continued advancement around Gaining Ground's mission to grow nutrient-dense organic produce and donate it to food programs serving Boston, Lowell, and the MetroWest. "We are thrilled and extremely grateful to welcome our new board members," said Jennifer Johnson, Executive Director of Gaining Ground, in a statement. "Each one of them provides our board with a unique background and meaningful perspective and we look forward to their insight, expertise, and guidance in the future."
