SYMBIOS ecotecture is looking for a construction worker to join our team! Work involves a mix of construction and landscaping installation tasks related to creating unique living rooftops, roof gardens and green wall environments. DESCRIPTION: SYMBIOS is a design, build and maintain company specializing in installations of living roofs and green walls on buildings. In addition, projects also incorporate alternative water systems for irrigation, such as rainwater harvesting, greywater, water re-use systems. We also maintain many of our built projects. Project sites are primarily in the Northbay (Sonoma, Marin, Napa counties) and occasionally projects are in San Francisco, East Bay, South Bay or Sacramento metro area. EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time, 16 hrs. to 32 hrs. Some flexibility exists with scheduling of workdays. Opportunity exists to learn skills and advance one’s knowledge of sustainable building practices and techniques. This position may lead to full-time employment and/or position advancement. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: general labor • 1+ year prior construction related experience • 1+ year prior landscape/gardening related experience • Driver’s License and clean driving record • Own a vehicle for transportation to various job sites and/or company’s office (ride share opportunities) • Candidates with less experience feel free to apply (on-job training provided) TASK REQUIREMENTS: Handling & installing various building components on new project build-outs • Building materials: living roof components, matting, filter fabric, metal edging, etc. • Irrigation: piping & components; valves, sprayheads, drip line, filters, etc. • Landscape materials: organic soil products, gravel, etc. • Planting: various types; seeding, small plugs, up to 4” & 1 gal pots. Maintenance – existing projects • Weeding, pruning & deadheading • Irrigation system, monitoring, testing, winterizing, repairing • Fertilizing and amendment applications General – new & existing projects • Comfortable working at heights above the ground level – i.e., roofs, exterior facades • Working on and around lifting equipment (scissor lifts, high lifts, etc.) • Comfortable using ladders, scaffolding and/or using fall safety protection gear • Knowledgeable of best practices in workplace safety (or willing to learn) • Ability to lift heavy and maneuver bulky construction materials • Able to endure a wide range of physical activities • Able to endure outdoor weather conditions (all seasons) • Follow all safety rules and regulations DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES: • Ability to work in a team environment or at times independently • Work at distant project sites with stayover in provided housing (occasionally) • Willingness to learn new construction techniques and skills • Self-motivated and dependable • Finds hard work rewarding • Maintains positive attitude • Interest in working within all divisions of our services PAY: Compensatory based on experience level and qualifications (DOE).
