Company – Stealth mode bio-technology company Work Location – Fremont (Primary) and Newark (Secondary) Position – Facilities Technician (Contract to Hire) Work schedule - Mon-Fri; 8 am – 4:30 pm with a requirement to respond to afterhours and emergency calls Join an outstanding team of scientists and engineers, led by a team of serial entrepreneurs, biotech experts and big-data leaders who are funded by top-tier VCs. You will play an important role in supporting the development and commercialization of technology and products that will have a major impact on the medical and life sciences field. How You'll Contribute • Inspect and identify equipment or machines in need of repair • Inspect safety equipment and coordinate life safety equipment inspections as required • Troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs • Oversee building and grounds maintenance, conduct, and document regular facilities inspections. • Plan and schedule repair work using building’s blueprints, drawings, schematics, or equipment manuals • Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, i.e., repairing drywall, doors and other building fixtures, painting • Perform routine maintenance on building systems • Order supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance • Ensure that the facility is kept clean and well maintained according to company standards • Respond to emergency situations and internal customer service requests as assigned • Assist with installation and modification of building/lab equipment and systems as needed • Perform administrative function at Fremont location and other administrative related duties as assigned, i.e. arrange daily lunches, receive and restock office supplies and breakroom snacks/drinks, keep office and breakroom areas clean and organized, greet visitors, receive and distribute daily mail Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities • Technical degree, vocational or on the job training or related years of large manufacturing building and facility maintenance experience in at least one of the following disciplines: HVAC, electrical, plumbing • Experience in OSHA safety, instrumentation, hot water systems, chillers, pumps, security and monitoring systems, fire suppression, mechanical power transmissions, painting, carpentry, or engine repair is a plus • 2+ years of related experience in a laboratory environment • Ability to maintain and operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other general warehouse tools as required • Knowledge of general electrical and repair and skilled in the use of standard hand and power tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices in building maintenance crafts • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to building maintenance • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (commercial license may be required) and good driving record with periodic checks • Regularly required to travel outside between properties in varying weather conditions • Customer service orientated with strong verbal and written communication skills • Professionalism, accountability and punctuality • Excellent organizational and time management skills • Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, Word • Experience in life science or semiconductor industries preferred • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors; read and understand information presented orally and in writing • Ability to work Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30 and respond to afterhours and emergency calls Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods standing and walking • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, stand, crouch or crawl into awkward spaces • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds at a time and safely install rigging/lifting devices • Ability to work around mechanical, electrical, fume/odor, dust/mites, toxic waste, chemical hazards, and noise • Ability to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime assignments) when you are the only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts; may require shift work and/or stand-by on-call duties.
