Description

Each year in October, advocates, survivors and supporters recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). And on Thursday, October 21, at 7:30 PM, All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore, with its ministry, Be the Light, will offer a candlelight vigil on its front steps to raise voices and prayers in honor and remembrance of the victims who lost their lives to domestic violence over the past year, and to support and encourage those DV survivors seeking to escape their abusers. Domestic violence is far more prevalent than most realize, with one in four women and one in seven men experiencing domestic violence in their lifetimes. Anyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual identity or orientation, or socioeconomic status, can become a victim of domestic violence. This year's national campaign theme, #Every1KnowsSome1, strives to highlight how common domestic violence is and that it is more than physical violence. DV can take on many different forms including verbal abuse, nonverbal abuse (psychological abuse, mental abuse, or emotional abuse), sexual abuse, stalking (online and in-person), economic abuse, or spiritual abuse.
