Brockton Student Arrested After Bringing Gun To School

BROCKTON, MA — A student from Brockton High School was arrested Friday morning after police say he brought a gun into school. Brockton Public Schools issued a letter to parents saying students came forward, letting staff know they heard another student had a gun in his possession at the school. In the letter, Brockton Superintendent Michael Thomas said that the student was then escorted into the office where the gun was found in his bag. The gun was removed from his bag and the school requested a 'stay in place' order so police could conduct a full sweep of the school, according to police. The student was then placed into police custody, where he was arrested. "We train for this. We have been for several years. Students train for this, elementary all the way up to through middle school and high school," said Brockton Superintendent Michael Thomas in the letter to parents. "Students have to feel comfortable being able to go to an adult and tell them when something is wrong or something is amiss...and they did just that." Police say there was no threat made, and the student was not identified. This incident comes a day after an hours-long standoff between an armed man who police say shot another man and a police officer before taking his own life.
