Good Friday morning Connecticut, It will be foggy until around 10 a.m. today and then we'll see some sun in the afternoon. High temperatures will rise into the low 70s. Saturday looks mostly cloudy and there is a 40 percent chance of rain showers on Sunday. Monday looks cloudy too. The Big Story Gov. Ned Lamont of Connecticut, Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York, Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey, and Gov. Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania announced they have signed a memorandum of understanding to share crime gun data in an effort they say will help prevent gun violence and enhance public safety. The agreement allows law enforcement agencies from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania to share crime gun data across state lines in order to "detect, deter, and investigate gun crime, as well as identify and apprehend straw purchasers, suspect dealers, firearms traffickers, and other criminals," according to a news release. "Working together, our states' law enforcement agencies can collaboratively share critical gun crime data and directly confront the threat of gun violence and criminal activity," Lamont said. "This regional partnership will allow law enforcement in each of our states to share data in order to detect, deter, and investigate gun crimes, and apprehend straw purchasers, suspect dealers, firearms traffickers, and other criminals. Firearms are frequently taken across state borders when involved in crimes, and Connecticut is committed to partnering in these kinds of regional coalitions to strengthen the safety of our communities." Statement by the White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on the Memorandum of Understanding Between New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut on Reciprocal Sharing of Crime Gun Data "We applaud today's announcement by the Governors of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut that the states' law enforcement agencies will share crime gun data across state lines to bolster law enforcement operations and improve public safety. This data-sharing agreement recognizes the reality that firearms cross state lines, and we therefore need a multijurisdictional approach to tackling gun violence. "President Biden shares these Governors' commitment to cross-state collaboration to tackle the gun violence public health epidemic. In support of the President Biden's comprehensive strategy to combat the epidemic of gun crime, and as a further concrete step to implement the Department's Comprehensive Violent Crime Reduction Strategy, the Justice Department launched 5 multijurisdictional firearms trafficking strike forces focused on addressing significant firearms trafficking corridors that have diverted guns to New York and four other major United States cities. "We encourage other state and local officials to follow these Governors' lead and collaborate to reduce our shared challenge of gun violence," the White House statement concludes.
