CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — Police announced that two females were fatally shot Friday at a senior living community in Capitol Heights. Officers noted that they have a suspect in custody. Authorities have not yet identified the victims or the suspect. The Capitol Heights Police Department explained that it heard word of the shooting at 9:10 a.m. Officers informed that they arrived four minutes later and found one victim in the corridor and the other in the office of the National Church Residences Gateway Village rental community. The Prince George's County Police Department indicated that it called a barricade situation and activated its conflict management team. Authorities mentioned that they apprehended the suspect without incident by 10:25 a.m. Nearby Capitol Heights Elementary school entered a temporary lockdown during the incident, officials tweeted. "We woke up this morning, and yet another case of inexplicable grief," County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said at a press conference, offering her prayers and thanking the responding officers. "There really is no good explanation for why this kind of occurrence can happen again and again." Alsobrooks does not know whether mental health was a factor in the shooting. The county executive pointed to a new mental health facility as one of the latest resources available to Prince Georgians. Detectives clarified that they are still investigating. They will share more information when it is available. https://t.co/BZjggeUyJi— PGPDNEWS (@PGPDNews) October 8, 2021 Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter.
