OCEAN CITY, NJ — The fireworks display that typically caps off Ocean City's Fall Block Party has been canceled on Saturday due to stormy weather.
Officials made the decision Thursday after consulting with the barge and fireworks companies.
"I know that's a disappointment, but the marine forecast calls for strong winds and heavy seas that would prevent the fireworks company from telling the barge out in the ocean," said City Business Administrator George Savastano.
Savastano said making the decision ahead of time saved the city more than $8,000 in staging costs that would have been lost if they canceled at the last minute.
Ocean City's Fall Block Party is set to go on rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. More than 400 crafters, food vendors and entertainers will line a mile of downtown Asbury Avenue between Fifth Street and 14th Street.
