JERSEY CITY, NJ —A Jersey City Man was was sentenced to 20 years in state prison on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the November 2021 death of his girlfriend, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. Rand March, 66, entered a guilty plea this past April, admitting to using a knife to cause the death of 67-year-old Kimberly Haston, with whom March shared an apartment. Due to the No Early Release Act, March will be required to serve 85 percent of his 20-year sentence before he's eligible for parole, authorities said. According to police accounts of the crime, on the afternoon of November 23, 2020, Jersey City Police Department officers performed a welfare check at the Court House Place apartment that March and Haston shared. When the officers gained access to the apartment, they found a lifeless female, later identified as Haston, on the floor with an apparent laceration to her neck. Authorities said Haston was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead later that afternoon. March, who was in the apartment when police arrived, was taken into custody and later charged in connection with Haston's death.
