WEST WARWICK, RI — Rhode Island State Police identified the three people killed in a fiery crash Tuesday on Interstate 95 in West Warwick. State Police said the crash victims were driver Brandon Verrocchio, 23, of West Greenwich and passengers Gianni Guerrieri, 22, of West Greenwich and Alex Banner, 21, of Exeter. Guerrieri in September 2016 was hailed a hero for rescuing a woman from a burning car, WPRI 12 reported. Tuesday's crash happened just before 2 a.m., just south of Exit 8. All three people were in the same car, which veered off the road into the grass median. It then hit a tree and burst into flames, police said. West Warwick firefighters put out the fire, and the driver and two passengers were pulled from the wreckage. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was speeding at the time of the crash, police said, in the second lane of the highway. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
