NOVATO, CA — The Novato Police Department has received state funding to reduce underage drinking, officials said. The $31,442 grant was awarded to the NPD from the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) for the Alcohol Policing Partnership Program that aims to reduce alcohol-related harm, Novato Police Chief Matt McCaffrey said in a statement. The program aims to reduce harm related to underage drinking in part by reducing youth access to alcoholic beverages. "This is important to the Novato community in order to increase protection for youth and to hold those accountable who allow youth to gain access to alcohol" McCaffrey said in a statement. A portion of the funds will be used for holiday enforcements. Programs funded through the grant include Minor Decoy and Shoulder Tap Decoy operations, and Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendency (IMPACT) inspections. This grant strengthens local law enforcement efforts by combining the resources of local police officers and ABC agents, officials said.
