PITTSBURGH, PA — The crime was shocking: a U.S. Postal Service employee gunned down in broad daylight on a quiet suburban street in Collier. Who would do such a thing? The answer came within minutes of the murder on Thursday when Eric Kortz turned himself in.
Kortz told authorities that he shot Louis Vignone on Thursday because the mail carrier had attempted to poison him and his family when they were neighbors in the West End. He said he stalked Vignone that morning "to put some bullets in him."
Kortz remains in federal custody. If convicted of Vignone's killing, he could receive life imprisonment or the death penalty.
