JOLIET, IL — Bail for a 46-year-old convicted felon has been set at $200,000 in connection with allegations he had a loaded gun in his possession as he sat inside an illegally parked car on the city's east side. Joliet police booked Deangelo Reese into custody on Oct. 2. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of ammunition, having no Firearm Owners Identification card and having an arrest warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections. Joliet police said Reese's arrest happened after officers were sent to the 300 block of Herkimer Street to investigate an illegally parked car around 12:40 a.m. last Saturday. "While speaking to the occupants, officers observed open containers of alcohol and the odor of burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle," Joliet police reports show. "Reese was identified as a passenger in the vehicle." Officers had Reese get out of the car and when he did, "officers observed a black 9mm handgun on the floorboard where Reese was just seated. Reese indicated ownership of this firearm, and he was placed into custody without incident." The gun was loaded, and Joliet police recovered it as physical evidence, authorities said. Reese lives in the 1300 block of Hague Street, Will County Jail logs show. He remained in custody Friday, unable to post 10 percent of his bail.
