Oregon Judge Rejects Vaccine Mandate Halt Requested By Troopers

PORTLAND, OR — Gov. Kate Brown acted legally when she she required that Oregon State Troopers be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18. That is the the ruling of Jack Landau, a retired state Supreme Court Justice who is hearing a lawsuit by 33 state troopers. The troopers brought the lawsuit in Jefferson County. It is one of at least eight challenging the mandate. Landau's ruling is the second denying a request to prevent the mandate from being enforced. "The police power of the state includes the authority to enact public health laws that may have the effect of curtailing individual rights," he wrote. Live in Portland? Brown's mandate covers not only state troopers but all executive employees, K-12 teachers, health care workers, and more. The state department of justice recently concluded that all people licensed by the state are also covered by the mandate.
