HILLSBORO, OR — The family of Nabila Maazouz who drowned two years ago after a swim practice wants accountability for her death. They are also asking for $70 million. The family filed a suit in Washington County Circuit Court against Hillsboro School District, the city of Hillsboro, and the manufacturer of a pool cover under which Maazouz died. After a team practice at Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center in Hillsboro, she and other students to cover the pool with a heavy tarp created for pools. After swimming across the pool twice, including once under the cover, the other students exited the pool not noticing that Maazouz had not. It was only when her mother, who had been waiting for her outside of practice, realized that her daughter had not exited with other students, that Maazouz's body was discovered under the cover. She had drowned. The city and the schools have both expressed their sympathy to the Maazouz family, calling their daughter's death tragic.
