Firefighters Rescue Dog From Vacant Church Fire In Royal Oak Twp

ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, MI — Firefighters rescued a dog from a vacant Royal Oak Township church fire Sunday morning, according to Ferndale city officials. The Ferndale, Madison Heights and Birmingham Fire Departments were battling the blaze when they noticed the frightened dog standing alone in the building. Firefighters then helped wedge the dog through a small structural opening, where she escaped with minor burns. Ferndale Fire Chief Teresa Robinson called out to her as she fled the scene, and the dog immediately ran back to thank her rescuers. Live in Birmingham? "She was scared, but there was not an ounce of aggression in her body," Chief Robinson said. "She just wanted to be loved." "When we found her, we weren't sure about the extent of the fire," she added. "This is a great thing to celebrate; we don't always have positive outcomes like this." The dog was treated for her burns at the Oakland County Animal Shelter and her new name is "Miracle." She will be up for adoption soon. Firefighters also quickly extinguished the fire with no injuries.
