BIRMINGHAM, AL — Week 8 of the high school football season kicked off Thursday night, with a handful of Birmingham metro schools in action, while the rest of the teams play Friday. Thursday night, Mountain Brook defeated regional foe Briarwood 14-0, and in a much higher-scoring game, Chelsea beat Huffman 41-34. Also in action Thursday, Ramsay beat John Carroll and Pelham outlasted Benjamin Russell. Friday night's slate of games includes a challenge for new 6A no. 2 Clay-Chalkville, as they take on Mortimer Jordan, and a cross-town match-up between Hoover and Spain Park.
