Description
We are a small 501c3 nonprofit, whose sole mission is to feed hungry students for the weekend. In the Seattle Public School District there are 52,000 students in about 98 schools. Out of that 22,000 qualify for free and reduced lunch. Out of that, 3000 are identified as homeless through the Mckinney Vento Federal Act which qualifies them as having no adequate nighttime residence. They are on the street, car, shelter, hotel, or doubled up.
For many of those MKV students, they rely solely on the food at school, so from Friday lunch to Monday breakfast it's a long time. We hope to fix that with a weekend hunger bag that has 13 items for them to take home and eat for the weekend, filling a belly which would have gone empty.
We are currently serving 2200 students in 60 schools in 4 school districts. We hope to grow so that no MKV student goes unserved.
We work out of our warehouse on 1st ave so, between the stadiums and Krispy Kreme.
We have a 4-day schedule. Please be vaccinated. Here are our current needs:
Monday prep 9am-11am - 5 volunteers needed
Tuesday fill 9:30-11:30- 15 volunteers needed
